The internet is home to many different types of sharing websites. From Facebook and Twitter to LinkedIn and Digg, these sites all have different purposes and can be beneficial for authors and users.

A popular one you may not know about is StumbleUpon. This is a content-recommendation site that captures your interests and uses them to “personalize your tumbles.” Interest topics are varied and include both academic (Computer Graphics, Astronomy, Mythology, Nature) and leisure (Painting, Arts, Cooking, Movies).

As a user, this website is significant because the site uses your interests to recommend articles, blogs, images and other informative sources. By clicking the thumbs-up or thumbs-down on the top of each article, you can personalize recommendations even further.

As an author and blogger, it is a significant tool as well. It works similar to Facebook in that you can insert the StumbleUpon icon on to your blog. Readers share your blog with other StumbleUpon users, thus helping your blog’s visibility.
